We are based in the historic market town of Evesham in Worcestershire where we have been making music for nearly 75 years. We seek to entertain the public whilst enjoying ourselves and maintaining a keen competitive edge. We play a wide range of music from familiar brass band repertoire, the Salvation Army catalogue as well as some more challenging competition pieces. We always aim to play to a high standard, constantly stretching ourselves and reaching new heights. In recent years we have performed well in the West Midlands Second Section and enjoyed some success at the Wychavon Festival of Brass. Avonbank continues to be ambitious with high hopes for the future.
As a keen bandsman, Colin shares considerable musical experience with Avonbank. Colin played with Sherborne Town Band before joining the Army where he studied at the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall. As well as being the best cavalry trumpeter on his course, Colin was awarded the Cousins Memorial Parchment for exceptional proficiency on the Euphonium. After 16 years service, Colin left the army and was soon back in the thick of brass banding, performing as a soloist. He then became musical director of youth bands, first at Sherborne, and then at Wilton and District Youth Band before moving to become Conductor of Ledbury Community Band. Colin has enjoyed considerable success on the contest stage and Avonbank looks forward to even greater success under his baton in the years to come.
